Leucate is the entrance to the Regional Nature Reserve the “Narbonnaise Méditerranée”.
This ancient island, which over the years has become a peninsula, is still in the centre of a marine environment, nestled between its 16 km of Mediterranean coasts and its 31 km of ponds, channels, islands and seaports.
Leucate is made up of four distinct urban districts between which stretch three vast protected natural areas.
The Village, with its rich historical past, guardian of the Languedocien origins is the home of natural activities of fishing and wine making. It is bordered by a small valley dominated by its fortress, and vast plateau.
Between vineyards and oyster beds, the village of Leucate takes you into the heart of Mediterranean traditions. Its fortress, bell-tower, narrow streets, shaded squares, and stone buildings, are all signs of the enchanted “midi”.

The plateau, kingdom of the leucatois vineyard, interlaced by a never-ending labyrinth of paths, bordered with dried stone walls and almond trees, is a trekkers paradise. It ends with the cliffs of Cape Leucate, towering 50 metres above the sea.
At the foot of the cliff are two small family seaside resorts, La Franqui to the north and Leucate Plage to the south of Cape Leucate, well known to navigators. Leucate’s beaches are true marvels, some of the worlds finest beaches. La Franqui, located at the crossroads of fine sands and the wind, offers its 4 km of beaches not only for relaxing moments but also for sports activities such as beach buggying, fun boarding and kite sailing.

From Cape Leucate, stretches two natural swimming areas, to the north the Coussoules beach, a natural environment which has been carefully preserved and free from construction. To the south, surrounded by the sea and salt water inlet is Port Leucate, a sea port and beach site developed in the 1960’s as a holiday resort. Between tradition and modernisation, Port Leucate maintains a link between man and the sea. Beyond its fine sandy beaches, it offers a numerously incredible variety of entertainments to holiday makers.

The 18 km long salt water inlet is an essential part of the leucate landscape. One can fish Gilthead Sea Bream and Sea Bass, and the inland sea is also home to Leucate’s oyster beds and oyster centre located along the banks of the "grau".
7 000 hectares where one can trek between sand and waves. Water lovers can take advantage of it all. Leucate has spots for everyone, but if you prefer a more inland site, the summit of the cliffs offer outstanding inland discoveries of the local fauna and flora.

Leucate is the first seaside resort of the aude coast which proposes sporting or cultural events during all seasons. The “Mondial du Vent” in April, international surf sports, a Fiesta in May, the “Generali Méditerranée” race in June...
Without forgetting the little ones, whether they are angels or demons, in Leucate children are kings. For organizers of festive demonstrations, the Credois is the word “family”. With each "adult" activity, a "children" activity is automatically assigned. A last real holidays for everyone!
